The Tie Project
a contemporary look at traditional attire

The tie project began as a color study in black and white of neckties. The model, my grandfather, was colorblind and wore a tie everyday. After tying his tie in the morning, he would put his hands at his side and for a quiet moment examine himself in the mirror. I always wondered what he saw in that moment. I saw a rainbow of colors in between black of his suit and the white of his shirt. He only saw shades of gray. I captured over 60 of those moments even though only 13 made it into the final series.
