a documentary on the loss of a loved one

On October 9, 2009, my loved grandfather passed away. After his passing each member went through his/her own grieving process. As a way to document this process I set up a series of darkslies to fit into a 4x5 large format camera. Ten slides for each person, each slide representing the person's relationship to all of the other ten members of the immediate family. The resulting images were then created by inserting each slide, exposing the film and then repeating the process. The unexposed black areas represent the part of each of us that had a relationship with my grandfather - never to be replaced by anyone. We still deal with his loss though his memory will be with us all of the time as encouragement to go on.
